Suzy Buhle
Born in Boonah in 1967, Suzy grew up on the family grazing property near Aratula and began her art training while still at school, with weekend lessons from local Moogerah-based artist and art lecturer, Michael Barrett. This was followed by the completion of a graphic arts degree at the Queensland College of Art in 1987.
Suzy held her first solo exhibition on the Gold Coast in 1994 and then moved to Sydney where she started a successful menu and chalkboard design business. She held a highly-successful exhibition in Bowral in 1995 but then returned to the Gold Coast because of a family illness. Suzy operated her own small art gallery, Art House, at Nobbys Beach for some time before moving to Tamborine and taking up painting full-time.
Suzy’s commission works hang in the foyer and restaurant of Twin Towns Resort, Tweed Heads; as well as Club Minx in Elizabeth Street, Brisbane, and a number of cafes and restaurants in the region. She staged two sell-out exhibitions in Sydney during its Olympic year.
Suzy’s works have a great sense of occasion, movement and colour. She has a fantastic ability to distort attractively and capture the essence of a situation. Her works are free-spirited and fun and often approached from angles that attest to her vibrant imagination.
Suzy has built a strong following of repeat buyers for her distinctive works. Her style is instantly recognizable and it speaks of today - of bold and beautiful women having fun with who they are; funky café scenes and evocative rural subjects.
