Peter Fowler
Peter Fowler started painting in 1995 to educate and pass on his Aboriginal heritage to his young son and newly-born twin daughters.
His Aboriginal background has its roots with the desert people of the Charleville/Cunnamulla district. Peter was born in Brisbane, separated from his natural family, then adopted and raised by a Celtic-Anglo Saxon family.
He has been aware of his adoption since early childhood but was not aware of his Aboriginality until informed by his adoptive parents about 15 years ago.
Peter then set about finding his natural mother which took about five years and they have since built a loving relationship.
He paints in his own unique contemporary Aboriginal style which has attracted wide community interest. Peter has held successful solo exhibitions at the Boonah Regional Art Gallery and the Newtown Gallery, Ipswich. He has also exhibited in group exhibitions at Boonah, Redland Bay and the Gold Coast.
In 2005, he received a Highly Commended Award in the Oils & Acrylics Section of the Scenic Rim Art Prize and his painting (pictured above) was acquired by Boonah Shire Council. In 2006, Peter received second prize in the Oils & Acrylics Section of the Scenic Rim Art Awards.
His work is held in private collections both in Australia and overseas.
